Résonance is a premier professional vocal ensemble based in Omaha, Nebraska. A 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2012, our mission is to engage, inspire and challenge those we encounter through eclectic and innovative vocal music performances and compelling collaborations.
Our ensemble believes that all vocal and choral music is, at its heart, about telling stories, and therefore undertakes a wide range of repertoire—regardless of genre or content—to provide uncommonly varied experiences for our audiences.
Our approach to preparation and performance is twofold. First, anything sung should be sung beautifully, with full sound and well-grounded vocal technique that includes a rich, sonorous auditory resonance. Second, the human essence in every work must be conveyed effectively to the audience, enabling them to experience what we call “emotional resonance.” In striving towards and achieving these goals, we provide a special musical transcendence.
Artistic Vision and Leadership
Under the visionary leadership of Artistic Director Ernest Richardson and Principal Conductor A. Barron Breland, Résonance comprises a versatile roster of more than 40 professional vocal artists. Our approach is twofold: achieving elite vocal technique that produces a rich, sonorous auditory resonance, and effectively conveying the human essence of every work to create a transcendent musical experience.
The ensemble is supported by Associate Music Director and collaborative pianist Mark Kurtz, an award-winning composer whose commissioned works have been recognized by the American Guild of Organists.
Strategic Partnerships and Residencies
Résonance thrives on bringing world-class music into the region’s most unique spaces. We are proud to be in our second year of a marquee residency with Le Bouillon—the James Beard-nominated French brasserie in Omaha’s Old Market.
Our reach is furthered through vital partnerships with:
A Legacy of Excellence
Since its inception, Résonance has become a staple of the Midwest arts scene. The ensemble appears frequently with the Omaha Symphony, performing everything from live movie scores (Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Home Alone) and Stravinsky’s Mass to semi-staged productions like South Pacific.
Our stage has been shared with a "who’s who" of the performing arts world, including:
In 2020, the ensemble reached a global audience with the release of their debut album, Pilgrimage – A Journey in Choral Music (MSR Classics), available on all major streaming services.
Cultivating the Future: Youth and Community
Résonance is committed to the next generation of artists. Our Young Artist program (est. 2016) provides high school apprentices with the tools for professional careers, while our Youth Ensemble (est. 2023) allows young treble voices to perform alongside our professional roster.
For those in the community who love to sing, the Résonance Festival Choir (est. 2022) brings together students, professionals and community members to annually perform choral masterworks, such as our sold-out inaugural performance of Mozart’s Requiem.
