Résonance Presents The Road Home
Season Finale Celebrates Contemporary American Composers
Résonance, Omaha’s premier vocal ensemble, closes out its highly successful Pilgrimage 2017-18 season with lush melodic harmonies that evoke a sense of belonging, a sense of going home.
The season began with Résonance’s first-ever tour, a “pilgrimage” to Colorado where they sang with the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra. The concert coincided with an exhibit of the handwritten and hand-illuminated Saint John’s Bible, which drew people from far and wide. Résonance captures that experience of hope and healing in its season finale with stunning choral works from multi award-winning contemporary American composers Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre and Stephen Paulus – and also Carly Simon.
Résonance performs The Road Home Thursday, May 24, 2018, 7:30pm at St. Martha’s Episcopal Church, 780 Pinnacle Dr., Papillion.
“The title of the program, The Road Home, comes from a piece written by the late Stephen Paulus that’s written in a folk-like, old-school church hymn way,” explains Dr. A. Barron Breland, Résonance music director and conductor. “Complementing that work, I chose Lauridsen’s Soneto de la Noche and Whitacre’s
Three Songs of Faith. All the pieces are built on big, slow-moving chords that instill serenity – almost mystical,” he says.
Résonance takes pride in furthering the choral education of area high school students. Made possible through support from the Nebraska Arts Council, the three members of the Young Artist program auditioned and won the opportunity to perform on stage and will join the ranks of their professional colleagues for The Road Home! The young singers also joined the ensemble in March in Places to Go artist showcase with Broadway artist Siri Howard.
Join Résonance for some of the most beautiful choral music ever written. After the performance, mix and mingle with Maestro Breland and singers. VIP ticket buyers receive a complimentary voucher to Résonance's upcoming premiere recording. Tickets start at $15 and are available at resonancevoices.org.
